Tennessee: Homemade bombs found during search warrant, one arrested

On June 12, 2025, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) executed a search warrant at a home on Spottswood Avenue and arrested and charged a man after homemade bombs and drugs were found inside his home. MPD officers contacted the bomb squad to confiscate the explosives.  According to news reports, detectives utilized an RDX device, which detected ammonium nitrate inside the devices, and an ATF special agent was present for the test.

Florida: Suspect attempted to bomb radio tower, one arrested

On June 6, 2025, a Brevard County Sheriff's Department (BCSD) spokesperson stated a suspect has been arrested for allegedly attempting to bomb a state radio tower. The arrest resulted from a police inquiry of a suspect in a suspiciously parked vehicle along Deering Parkway Road between Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1. Media sources reported the suspect made inconsistent statements that prompted officers to search the vehicle where they found an explosive device described as a pipe bomb.

Tennessee: Incendiary explosive device discovered during vehicle search, one arrested

On June 5, 2025, a 22-year-old suspect was arrested in Smithville, TN after police discovered an incendiary explosive device in his vehicle. Dekalb County Sheriff's Department (DCSD) deputies responded to a private residence on Chapel Road for reports of an unwanted guest.

Mississippi: Possible explosive device discovered at business

On June 3, 2025, an explosive device was found at a business in the industrial park per the Olive Branch Police Department (OBPD). OBPD received a call about a possible explosive device at the loading dock of the business at around 9:15 a.m. Authorities evacuated the area and told the public that the intersection of DeSoto Road and Metro Drive was closed due to police activity. OBPD said the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and the FBI both joined in the investigation, and authorities eventually sent in a robot to examine the suspect object.

North Carolina: Tripwire IED Found by Officer During Foot Pursuit

On April 1, 2025, In Hoke County, North Carolina, a traffic stop escalated into a foot chase in a nearby wooded lot. During the foot pursuit, authorities discovered a possible improvised explosive device (IED) with a tripwire on a path through the wooded area. Bomb squads from multiple agencies responded and rendered the device safe. The device was then sent to a crime lab for analysis. The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.

Kentucky: Smoke Grenade Discovered in Suspect’s Possession, 1 Arrested

On 17 January 2025, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded following reports of an armed suspect on Tabbs Hollow Road in Summit. At the scene, deputies encountered a male suspect, armed with a firearm and a knife, reportedly making threats that he had a live grenade and had pulled the pin. Deputies noted that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs and exhibited mental health issues, leading to an attempt to convince the suspect to accept mental health support.

Florida: IIDs Thrown in Parking Lot, Suspect Killed

On 9 January 2025, at approximately 0630 hours local time, the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Fort Lauderdale Police Department responded to a report of a fire in a parking lot on the 5300 block of Northwest 33rd Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. At the scene, officers encountered a large fire and a suspect throwing IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, at mattresses and chairs in the parking lot. According to the police chief, the suspect was killed after officers discharged their weapons when the suspect did not comply with orders to drop the IID.

Tennessee: Juvenile Charged after BMM Found in Home

On 6 January 2025, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered unspecified BMM while searching a residence in Cookeville. Deputies searched the home after receiving a tip that a juvenile occupant could be in possession of BMM. The Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit was called to assist in handling the BMM. The juvenile was charged with possession of explosive components. No further information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.

Tennessee: IID Thrown at Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 2 January 2025, at approximately 1345 hours local time, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to an apartment building on the 2200 block of Geneva Trail in Lakesite after a man removed a security camera from the porch of an apartment before throwing an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, at a vehicle outside the apartment. A small fire ignited, which spread to the occupied apartment unit but was extinguished before law enforcement arrived at the scene. A 22-year-old male suspect was identified and located at his own apartment within the same complex.

Florida: Chemical Overpressure Devices Thrown into Yard, 1 Arrested

On 5 January 2025, at approximately 0230 hours local time, Lake City Police Department (LCPD) officers responded to the 700 block of Northeast Jackson Avenue in Lake City after the LCPD’s gunshot detection system had been triggered. At the scene, officers heard an explosion and observed smoke coming from the yard of a vacant home. In the yard, officers found several melted plastic bottles emanating gray smoke and evacuated a neighboring residence as a precaution while Lake City Fire Department crews were called to deal with potentially hazardous chemicals.
