Florida: Pyrotechnic Device Thrown from Vehicle at Florida Highway Patrol Cruiser, 1 Arrested

On 1 January 2025, at approximately 1000 hours local time, a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper pulled over a vehicle after pyrotechnics were thrown at the trooper’s vehicle near North Carl G Rose Highway in Hernando. A 20-year-old male occupant allegedly admitted to throwing the pyrotechnics out of the car and at the trooper’s vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, FHP troopers discovered a bag of commercial pyrotechnic devices. The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on an officer and throwing a destructive device.

Florida: IID Thrown at Occupied Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 30 December 2024, at approximately 0200 hours local time, a Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputy responded to a residence on Midway Boulevard in Port Charlotte after receiving a call from a 62-year-old male suspect, who made comments about an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail. At the scene, the deputy noted a fire in the driveway and a strong smell of gasoline in the air.

Tennessee: IED Found During Booking Process at Detention Center

On 11 January 2025, Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) officers arrested a 29-year-old man for unspecified charges and while processing him at the Washington County Detention Center in Jonesborough, deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office found an IED among his possessions. The IED was described as a “small, homemade device.” The JCPD Bomb Squad responded to assist and removed the IED from the facility. No additional information on the device was released.

South Carolina: IED, Firearm, and Illegal Drugs Found in Hotel, 1 Arrested

On 14 January 2025, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a hotel on Interstate Boulevard in Anderson County and found an IED following reports of a 40-year-old man who was unconscious and in possession of a firearm. Deputies found the IED, described as a sparkler bomb wrapped together with electrical tape, underneath a mattress. Additionally, deputies found 15 grams of methamphetamine. No additional details on the IED or its disposal were released. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a destructive device, among other charges.

Tennessee: IID Remnants Discovered After House Fire

On 25 November 2024, at approximately 0625 hours local time, Brentwood Fire and Rescue crews responded to the 1200 block of Warner Court in Brentwood for a report of smoke coming from a home. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the remnants of several IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, were found at the scene. The home sustained extensive damage as a result of the fire, but no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Mississippi: IED Discovered in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 6 December 2024, Pike County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) deputies attempted to perform a traffic stop in McComb on a suspicious vehicle, which fled the scene, leading deputies on a brief chase. The driver eventually abandoned the vehicle at the intersection of 5th Street and Brine Avenue and fled, but deputies located and arrested the suspect. Inside the vehicle, PCSO deputies discovered an IED with a fuse, prompting them to request the assistance of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security Bomb Squad. Bomb technicians removed the device from the scene for later disposal.

Florida: Man Threatens Victim with IID and Sword, 1 Arrested

8 December 2024, at approximately 0200 hours local time, Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) officers responded to a home on Southeast 8th Avenue in Cape Coral after a man allegedly threatened a resident with an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, before threatening to throw the IID at a car in the driveway. The suspect also brandished a sword and allegedly threatened the homeowner with it. The interaction was caught on home surveillance video, and officers located the 36-year-old male suspect at his residence nearby.

Tennessee: Pipe Bomb, Guns, and Drugs Discovered in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 26 November 2024, at approximately 2030 hours local time, Greene County Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered an IED, described as a pipe bomb, inside a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop near Culbertson Road in Greeneville. Morristown Explosive Ordnance Detection Unit technicians responded to handle the device. No further device details were released. Deputies also discovered guns, drugs, and drug paraphernalia inside the car. The male driver was arrested and charged with possession of prohibited weapons by a convicted felon, among other charges.

South Carolina: IIDs Thrown at Restaurant, 1 Arrested

On 18 November 2024, Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) officers responded to a restaurant on the 500 block of S Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach after a woman threw IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, at the front and side doors, igniting a fire that damaged the front door. On 24 November, MBPD responded to the same restaurant after an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, was thrown at the restaurant from the window of a vehicle. The IID ignited a fire on the street that was extinguished by an employee.

Florida: Residence and Business Targeted with IIDs

On 23 November 2024, a homeowner notified the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office after two IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, ignited a fire after being thrown at their residence on North Main Street and East 43rd Street in Jacksonville. The devices shattered a window and damaged the front porch. At least two broken bottles were found near the home. On 25 November, surveillance video footage captured two unidentified suspects throwing multiple IIDs at the homeowner’s business on Main Street and Tallulah, igniting a fire that damaged the structure and interior of the building.
