Kentucky: IID Device Functioned in Home Prior to Police Chase, 5 Injured, 1 Arrested

On 12 July 2024, at approximately 0718 hours local time, McCracken County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to a home on Almyra Avenue in Paducah for a report of a house fire. At the scene, deputies learned that the fire had been caused deliberately by an improvised incendiary device (IID) after a 24-year-old man attacked a woman in the home and fled the scene in a stolen vehicle. The woman and several other people who were inside the home escaped without injuries, but a dog was killed in the fire.

Georgia: IIDs Functioned at 2 Houses, 1 Arrested

On 1 June 2024, at approximately 0545 hours local time, fire crews responded to a home on the 6000 Block of Buckingham Court in Norcross for a reported fire. The home was severely damaged by the fire, which displaced a family of four and seriously injured one man. At the scene, Gwinnett County Fire Investigators discovered improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as gasoline-filled plastic bags and bottles with napkins. That same day, at approximately 0604 hours, fire crews responded to another fire approximately 3 miles away on the 1300 block of Turners Ridge Drive in Norcross.

Georgia: IID Thrown at Home

On 31 May 2024, home surveillance footage captured an unknown person throwing an improvised incendiary device (IID) at a home on the 3400 block of Springside Drive in DeKalb County before fleeing the scene. The breaking of a window awoke the homeowner, and they extinguished the fire before it spread beyond the curtains. No injuries were reported. No further device details have been released, and an investigation is ongoing.

Tennessee: IED and BMM Found While Searching Home, 1 Arrested

On 5 June 2024, at approximately 1300 hours local time, Henry County Sheriff's Department (HCSD) deputies, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation special agents and the ATF arrested a 53-year-old male suspect after discovering an IED while searching his Buchanan residence. HCSD deputies initially responded to a 911 call made by the suspect reporting a drug overdose. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an IED described as a PVC pipe with black wires taped to it on the home's front porch.

Tennessee: IID Thrown at Home, 1 Arrested

On 20 May 2024, at approximately 1600 hours local time, an individual threw an improvised incendiary device (IID) at a neighbor’s home on Evanback Court in Murfreesboro. The suspect assaulted two other neighbors before barricading himself inside a home. The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) Special Operations Unit, MPD Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team, Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Bomb Squad, THP Robot Team, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department, and ATF responded to the scene to assist. After barricading himself for several hours, the 38-year-old man exited and was arrested.

North Carolina: Pyrotechnics Functioned During Street Takeover

On 25 May 2024, a street takeover event was reported on East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Charlotte. During the event, multiple pyrotechnic devices were caught on video being functioned and sent flying into the air. No injuries or arrests have been reported. An investigation is ongoing.

Kentucky: IID Thrown Onto Roof of Donut Shop, 1 Arrested

On 21 May 2024, at approximately 1200 hours local time, Louisville Fire Department crews responded to a donut shop on Bardstown Road after a suspect threw an improvised incendiary device (IID) made from a plastic bottle onto the roof, starting a fire. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze. The building received significant fire damage to the roof and attic, but no injuries were reported. The 40-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with first-degree arson and first-degree wanton endangerment.

Florida: IID Thrown at Gas Station

On 8 May 2024, at approximately 0430 hours local time, an unknown suspect was seen on surveillance footage throwing an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a suspected Molotov cocktail, into bushes at a Fort Myers gas station on Colonial Boulevard and Winkler Avenue, setting them ablaze. Fort Myers Police Department officers and Fire Department crews responded. No damages were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

Florida: Man Threatens Florida DOT Building with "Bomb,” 1 Dead

On 17 April 2024, at approximately 1530 hours local time, Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) staff received a phone call from a man in the parking lot of FDOT’s Tampa office on McKinley Drive, claiming he had a bomb and intended to drive his vehicle into the building to harm people. Tampa Police Department (TPD) officers responded to the scene, where they located the suspect inside a vehicle in the parking lot. As officers approached the vehicle to speak to the man, the suspect shot himself and died at the scene.
