Ireland IID Destroys Construction Equipment

On 30 November 2023, at approximately 0400 hours local time, local authorities received a report of arson caused by an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, in Rosslare Harbour, Wexford. The IID destroyed a forklift at the construction site of an asylum seeker center. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Indiana: IIDs Thrown at Neighboring Property, 1 Arrested

TRIPwire, 6 June 2023 On 3 June 2023, Muncie Police Department officers responded to a residence on West 15th Street after a suspect threw improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as Molotov cocktails, at a neighbor's chicken coop and doghouse. No injuries were reported. The 20-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with attempted murder, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, and attempted cruelty to an animal.

Canada: IID Thrown at Restaurant

TRIPwire, 6 June 2023 On 6 June 2023, at approximately 0100 hours local time, Montreal police (SPVM) officers responded to a restaurant in Montreal, after an unidentified suspect was seen throwing an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, at the facade of the building. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze. The building was severely damaged, but no injuries were reported. The SPVM Arson Squad is handling the ongoing investigation.

Florida: IED Discovered Near Mailbox

TRIPwire, 5 June 2023 On 3 June 2023, at approximately 1245 hours local time, Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a residence in Crystal River after an IED was discovered near the mailbox at the end of a driveway. No further device details have been released. The CCSO Bomb Squad responded to assist and confirmed the IED was viable. Bomb technicians used a robot to render the device safe and removed it from the scene for offsite disposal. The incident remains under investigation.

Michigan: Pipe Bomb Discovered at Public Park

TRIPwire, 5 June 2023 On 2 June 2023, at approximately 1106 hours local time, the Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety found a suspected pipe bomb after a Pier Park employee alerted authorities that they had thrown a suspicious metal object, found near the pedestrian drop-off area, into the lake. The ATF, Detroit Police Department Bomb Squad, and Michigan State Police responded to assist. The device was recovered from the lake and bomb technicians determined it was a pipe bomb measuring approximately 5-6 inches long, before rendering it safe.

TRIPwire, 5 June 2023 On 5 June 2023, at approximately 1030 hours local time, a victim-operated IED (VOIED), described as a pressure IED, functioned near Tekameta hill in Bijapur district while a Central Reserve Police Force team was cordoning off the area, injuring three police officers. No further device details have been released. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the incident remains under investigation.

Texas: 2 IEDs Discovered in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

TRIPwire, 2 June 2023 On 1 June 2023, at approximately 0450 hours local time, College Station Police Department (CSPD) officers arrested a 56-year-old male suspect after a Department of Public Safety trooper discovered two IEDs, firearms, butane lighters, methamphetamines, and an open alcoholic drink in his vehicle on Turkey Creek Road. The suspect told officers that he was on his way to Easterwood Airport and planned to shoot into the air in an attempt to commit suicide by police. The CSPD’s bomb squad responded and rendered the devices safe. No further device details have been released.

New Mexico: BMM Discovered Near Church, 1 Arrested

TRIPwire, 2 June 2023 On 31 May 2023, at approximately 0000 hours local time, Dona Ana County Sheriff (DACS) deputies arrested a 40-year-old male suspect at a park next to Moongate Church in Las Cruces, as he was placing bomb-making material (BMM), described as “an eight-inch galvanized pipe with caps on both ends, a battery bridge, red and black multi meter device, rechargeable batteries, and black and red wires,” in a backpack. DACS Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist. No further details concerning the BMM were released.
