Nevada: VBIED Functioned Outside Trump-Owned Hotel, 1 Killed and 7 Injured

On 1 Jan 2025, at approximately 0840 hours local time, a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED), described as an electric pickup truck containing pyrotechnic devices, gasoline, and camping fuel, functioned outside a Trump hotel in Las Vegas, injuring seven people. The initial explosion was a fuel-air deflagration, and additional explosions were caused by 20 gallons of gasoline poured over at least 60.2 pounds of explosives. According to officials, the 37-year-old male driver died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound prior to the blast.

Nebraska: 9 IEDs Found in Residence, 1 Arrested

On 26 December 2024, Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) investigators executed a search warrant at a home in Valparaiso and discovered nine explosive devices, a stolen shotgun, a rifle, and a small quantity of unspecified drugs. Based on a photo, six of the IEDs were red, white, and blue striped cylindrical tubes capped on both ends with fuses protruding from one end, while another pictured device was a larger cylindrical tube wrapped in green tape, sealed on both ends and possessing a fuse.

Louisiana: RCIEDs and Explosive Material Found Following Vehicle Ramming, 14 Killed and Over 30 Injured

On 1 January 2025, at approximately 0315 hours local time, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to reports of a vehicle ramming into a crowd of pedestrians on Bourbon Street, which killed 14 people and injured over 30 others. The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old man from Texas, was killed after exchanging gunfire with officers. ATF, FBI, and DHS personnel were called to the scene to assist.

Hawaii: Accidental Pyrotechnic Explosion Kills 4 and Injures 20

On 1 January 2025, at approximately 0000 hours local time, the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and other local first responders responded to an explosion at a residence on Keaka Drive in Honolulu caused by illegal aerial pyrotechnics falling onto crates of additional pyrotechnics killing four people and injuring 20 others. The home caught fire and sustained extensive damage. HPD’s Specialized Services Division Bomb Unit responded to assist and rendered safe other pyrotechnics that were found but did not function. The investigation is ongoing.

Florida: IIDs Thrown in Parking Lot, Suspect Killed

On 9 January 2025, at approximately 0630 hours local time, the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue and Fort Lauderdale Police Department responded to a report of a fire in a parking lot on the 5300 block of Northwest 33rd Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. At the scene, officers encountered a large fire and a suspect throwing IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, at mattresses and chairs in the parking lot. According to the police chief, the suspect was killed after officers discharged their weapons when the suspect did not comply with orders to drop the IID.

Washington: 8 IEDs Discovered in Apartment and Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 2 January 2025, Airway Heights Police Department officers and Stevens County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered an IED while searching a residence on the 13000 block of West 6th Avenue in Airway Heights during an identity theft investigation. Explosive Disposal Unit technicians from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and Spokane Police Department were called to remove the explosive device, described as a “2-foot-long pipe-shaped object with fuses sticking out of the top.” Authorities also discovered seven additional IEDs in the suspect’s vehicle.

Virginia: IEDs Discovered in Stolen Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 1 January 2025, at approximately 2130 hours local time, Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a convenience store on John Marshall Highway in Linden following reports of a driver throwing suspicious objects out of a vehicle. Deputies arrested the 19-year-old male driver after he initially fled, and several “burglary tools” were found inside the car. Authorities executed a search warrant on the vehicle the following day and discovered several IEDs.

Virginia: Egyptian National Arrested for Planning Attack on Israeli Consulate

On 17 December 2024, an 18-year-old Egyptian national was arrested by the FBI Washington Field Office's Joint Terrorism Task Force in Falls Church for allegedly plotting a mass casualty attack on the Israeli General Consulate in New York City. The suspect reportedly ran several social media accounts that advocated for ISIS, al-Qaeda, and Hamas. According to the affidavit, the suspect shared bomb-making instructions with an undercover FBI confidential human source (CHS) and encouraged them to carry out an attack against the Israeli Consulate.

Texas: BMM Found Home and Storage Unit of New Orleans Vehicle-Ramming Attacker

On 7 January 2025, Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies and agents from the FBI’s Houston field office discovered BMM while searching a storage unit on the 11900 block of Walters Road in Houston that was connected to the suspect in the New Orleans vehicle-ramming attack. The BMM, described as “bottles of sulfuric acid,” were reportedly purchased at a nearby hardware store and were discovered inside a cooler within the storage unit.

Tennessee: Juvenile Charged after BMM Found in Home

On 6 January 2025, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered unspecified BMM while searching a residence in Cookeville. Deputies searched the home after receiving a tip that a juvenile occupant could be in possession of BMM. The Tennessee Highway Patrol Special Operations Unit was called to assist in handling the BMM. The juvenile was charged with possession of explosive components. No further information has been released. The investigation is ongoing.
