South Carolina: IIDs Thrown at Restaurant, 1 Arrested

On 18 November 2024, Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) officers responded to a restaurant on the 500 block of S Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach after a woman threw IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, at the front and side doors, igniting a fire that damaged the front door. On 24 November, MBPD responded to the same restaurant after an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, was thrown at the restaurant from the window of a vehicle. The IID ignited a fire on the street that was extinguished by an employee.

Pennsylvania: 58 IEDs Found in Gas Grill, 1 Arrested

On 27 November 2024, media reporting indicated that a 62-year-old male suspect who was arrested on 25 August 2024 after shooting his mother-in-law in the leg during a domestic dispute was also reportedly building IEDs and storing them at his home on Fisk Mill Road in Montrose. During the investigation, the suspect allegedly admitted to making explosives, and a search of the home uncovered 58 IEDs that were hidden in a gas grill.

Oregon: IID Thrown at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 7 November 2024, at approximately 0000 hours local time, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers and fire crews responded to a home on the 2200 block of SE Salmon Street in Portland for a report of a fire. The fire was extinguished, and investigators determined that an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, had been thrown on the home’s porch. Two adults and two children were inside at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Nebraska: IEDs Found at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 19 November 2024, Richardson County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at a residence on the 400 block of 4th Street in Dawson and found unspecified IEDs, multiple prohibited weapons, and possible methamphetamine. Authorities arrested a 61-year-old man on multiple charges, including use of explosives to commit a felony, possession of a destructive device, use of explosives without a permit, and storing explosives in violation of safety regulations.

Michigan: 2 IIDs Thrown at Home, 1 Arrested

On 26 November 2024, at approximately 0000 hours local time, a suspect threw an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, at a home on Piper Avenue in Battle Creek. After the first IID failed to ignite, the suspect returned to the home at approximately 0200 hours and threw another Molotov cocktail at the home, which ignited a blaze on the front porch. A resident of the home reportedly fired several shots from a firearm at the alleged suspect, which prompted a response from Battle Creek Police Department officers.

Florida: Residence and Business Targeted with IIDs

On 23 November 2024, a homeowner notified the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office after two IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, ignited a fire after being thrown at their residence on North Main Street and East 43rd Street in Jacksonville. The devices shattered a window and damaged the front porch. At least two broken bottles were found near the home. On 25 November, surveillance video footage captured two unidentified suspects throwing multiple IIDs at the homeowner’s business on Main Street and Tallulah, igniting a fire that damaged the structure and interior of the building.

Connecticut: IEDs Functioned in Secluded Area, 1 Injured

On 1 December 2024, at approximately 1225 hours local time, the Fairfield Police Department was notified by a local hospital that a patient was being treated for an injury after allegedly building and detonating IEDs in the Pine Creek Marsh in Fairfield. According to authorities, two male suspects made four IEDs; two IEDs were functioned while one IED functioned prematurely, injuring one suspect. The Stamford Police Department Bomb Squad was called to assist and removed the IED that remained at the marsh.

California: IIDs Thrown at Home

On 2 December 2024, at approximately 0145 hours local time, San Diego Police Department officers and Fire-Rescue crews responded to a residence on the 3600 block of Birch Street in the Southcrest area of San Diego after an unknown suspect threw multiple improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), described as Molotov cocktails, outside of the home, igniting a fire in the yard. At least one IID was made of a can with gasoline and a piece of cloth. The IIDs reportedly ignited another fire in a nearby alley. The fires were extinguished, and no injuries were reported.

Kosovo: Explosives Used to Damage Canal Impacting Power Plants and Water Supply, 8 Arrested

On 29 November 2024, at approximately 1900 hours local time, police responded to an explosion at the Iber Lepenc canal in Zubin Potok that damaged the wall, halted the drinking water supply to nearby towns, and impacted the water supply to two coal-fired power plants that generate most of the country’s electricity. No injuries were reported. According to authorities, approximately 33 to 44 pounds of unspecified explosives were used in the attack. Investigators searched 10 locations and found 6 shoulder-fired rocket launchers, “long weapons,” firearms, and ammunition.

Ireland: 6 Pipe Bombs, Drugs, and Cash Found During Home Searches, 3 Arrested

On 23 November 2024, at approximately 1530 hours local time, officers from Gardaí’s Galway Divisional Drugs Unit and Armed Support Unit discovered six IEDs described as pipe bombs, drugs, and drug paraphernalia in a residence in Menlough, County Galway. Technicians from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to assist and safely removed the IEDs. Authorities also discovered 9,400 euros [~$9,842 USD] after searching another property in Loughrea. Three women in their twenties were arrested. No further information was released. The investigation is ongoing.
