Florida: Man Threatens Victim with IID and Sword, 1 Arrested

8 December 2024, at approximately 0200 hours local time, Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) officers responded to a home on Southeast 8th Avenue in Cape Coral after a man allegedly threatened a resident with an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, before threatening to throw the IID at a car in the driveway. The suspect also brandished a sword and allegedly threatened the homeowner with it. The interaction was caught on home surveillance video, and officers located the 36-year-old male suspect at his residence nearby.

Italy: IED and Illegal Pyrotechnic Devices Seized by Authorities, 1 Arrested

On 6 December 2024, the Carabinieri of the Bagnoli operational unit seized a large quantity of explosives from a warehouse in the San Pietro a Patierno district in Naples. Among the explosives found were IEDs described as homemade pyrotechnics, including “700 cobra devices” and “17 onions.” Another IED weighing 50 grams and 3 kilograms [~6.6 pounds] of commercial pyrotechnic cake devices were also found. The explosive material was given to bomb disposal experts of the Provincial Command of Naples for disposal.

Colombia: VBIED Functioned at Police Checkpoint, 1 Killed and 14 Injured

On 7 December 2024, an individual functioned a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED), described as a motorcycle laden with explosives, at a police security checkpoint in the community of Las Penas in Jamundi municipality, Department of Valle de Cauca. The resulting explosion killed the driver of the motorcycle and injured seven civilians and seven police officers. A Cali Metropolitan police commander stated that the driver had become scared after being directed to a security checkpoint prior to detonating the device. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Albania: Explosive Device Functioned on Veranda Area of Bar

On 8 December 2024, at approximately 0600 hours local time, Vlora police responded to an explosion at a bar near Lungomare in Vlora. According to media reporting, an unidentified suspect placed an explosive device consisting of TNT in a window in the veranda area of the establishment and lit a fuse before fleeing the scene. The resulting detonation caused considerable material damage to the furniture and windows of the business. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Texas: 3 IEDs and Guns Found in Vehicle of Suspect Allegedly Intending to Attack Church

On 26 November 2024, at approximately 0530 hours local time, White Settlement Police Department officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on the 9200 block of Jason Lane in White Settlement. The occupant of the vehicle was identified as an Oklahoma man with reported family in the area. While talking with the man, officers noticed a handgun on his lap. He was removed from the vehicle and transported to a nearby medical facility for a reported mental health episode.

Tennessee: Pipe Bomb, Guns, and Drugs Discovered in Vehicle, 1 Arrested

On 26 November 2024, at approximately 2030 hours local time, Greene County Sheriff’s Department deputies discovered an IED, described as a pipe bomb, inside a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop near Culbertson Road in Greeneville. Morristown Explosive Ordnance Detection Unit technicians responded to handle the device. No further device details were released. Deputies also discovered guns, drugs, and drug paraphernalia inside the car. The male driver was arrested and charged with possession of prohibited weapons by a convicted felon, among other charges.

South Carolina: IIDs Thrown at Restaurant, 1 Arrested

On 18 November 2024, Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) officers responded to a restaurant on the 500 block of S Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach after a woman threw IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, at the front and side doors, igniting a fire that damaged the front door. On 24 November, MBPD responded to the same restaurant after an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, was thrown at the restaurant from the window of a vehicle. The IID ignited a fire on the street that was extinguished by an employee.

Pennsylvania: 58 IEDs Found in Gas Grill, 1 Arrested

On 27 November 2024, media reporting indicated that a 62-year-old male suspect who was arrested on 25 August 2024 after shooting his mother-in-law in the leg during a domestic dispute was also reportedly building IEDs and storing them at his home on Fisk Mill Road in Montrose. During the investigation, the suspect allegedly admitted to making explosives, and a search of the home uncovered 58 IEDs that were hidden in a gas grill.

Oregon: IID Thrown at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 7 November 2024, at approximately 0000 hours local time, Portland Police Bureau (PPB) officers and fire crews responded to a home on the 2200 block of SE Salmon Street in Portland for a report of a fire. The fire was extinguished, and investigators determined that an IID, described as a Molotov cocktail, had been thrown on the home’s porch. Two adults and two children were inside at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Nebraska: IEDs Found at Residence, 1 Arrested

On 19 November 2024, Richardson County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at a residence on the 400 block of 4th Street in Dawson and found unspecified IEDs, multiple prohibited weapons, and possible methamphetamine. Authorities arrested a 61-year-old man on multiple charges, including use of explosives to commit a felony, possession of a destructive device, use of explosives without a permit, and storing explosives in violation of safety regulations.
