On 1 August 2025, a man was arrested in Long Beach, CA for allegedly sending a dozen payments to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conducted a search at the suspect’s residence and recovered explosives during the arrest.
On 23 July 2025, a suspect allegedly left two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the Boston Common. The complaint reportedly stated the homemade IEDs appeared to be made from toilet paper roll cores with attached fuses, and X-ray examinations found they likely contained black powder. The suspect was arrested on 7 August 2025 and charged with vandalism and destruction of property, vandalizing a war or veterans memorial, and possession, transportation or use of a hoax device or substance.
On 26 July 2025, at approximately 0242 local time, an explosive device detonated in the vicinity of a silver Ford Explorer owned by a victim and parked in the victim’s driveway located in Delran, New Jersey. The explosion caused a debris field extending out approximately 100 feet in diameter, with various nails and bolts lodged in both the body of the Ford Explorer and in adjacent residential homes. Following the explosion, law enforcement recovered one damaged 9-volt battery, two damaged antenna parts, and one damaged fire pyrotechnic device.
On 29 July 2025, at approximately 0545 hours local time, police were notified of an explosion at a gas station on the 2800 block of North Broad Street. At the scene, police discovered two suspects had attempted to gain entry into an ATM using explosives. Two suspects were seen fleeing the scene after the explosion. The police bomb squad was notified and is helping with the investigation.
On 26 July 2025 at approximately 1035 hours local time, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department responded to an altercation in the 25300 block of Cole Street for reports of criminal threat involving a firearm. Once on scene, deputies identified a 35-year-old male of Loma Linda as the individual making the threats to the victim. A search warrant was obtained for the suspects residence where deputies recovered firearms, ammunition, high-capacity magazines, and approximately 1.5 pounds of exploding target material.
On 20 July 2025, a VOIED was placed under a lawnmower and functioned when the victim attempted to move it. The investigation stated the victim filled his mower with fuel, started it, and let it idle for approximately 10 seconds before moving the handles forward to move the mower, which caused the VOIED to function. The victim was able to get off the mower and exit his garage. The investigation identified the victim's previous tenant as the suspect. An arrest warrant has been issued for the 54-year-old man they believe allegedly emplaced the device.
On 5 July 2025 at approximately 0000 hours local time, a group of people entered a closed community pool at Somerset Subdivision, Clover, South Carolina and placed an explosive device inside a trashcan. The explosion created a large fireball and caused an estimated $5,800 in damages. The group of people then fled the scene in a white SUV. Police are asking the public for assistance identifying the group caught on camera causing the explosion.
On 25 July 2025, a 48-year-old Hill County man was arrested for allegedly possessing bomb-making material (BMM) and explosive devices at his residence. The Hill County Sheriff’s Office stated the suspect “intentionally and knowingly possessed components of an explosive weapon with the intent to combine the components into an explosive weapon for use in a criminal endeavor.” Inside his home, investigators found fuse sections, small pill bottles used to contain the explosives, electrical tape, as well as mixed and unmixed exploding target material (ETM).
On 23 July 2025 at approximately 1300 hours local time, a 28-year-old male allegedly shot three Lorain police officers in what has been described as a “planned and deliberate ambush.” The shooting resulted in the death of one of the police officers and wounded the two others. The suspect, a Lorain resident, was found deceased following a shoot-out with the responding officers. While securing the scene, officers discovered suspicious bags and requested support from the Lorain County Bomb Squad. Bomb squad technicians identified a significant amount of BMM inside the vehicle.
On 9 July 2025, a 19-year-old man was accused of constructing a pipe bomb and hiding it under a dresser in his bedroom. According to an affidavit for probable cause, the suspect informed his ex-girlfriend about the device and its location. The suspect’s ex-girlfriend then notified his mother, who subsequently located and removed the device, placing it on the kitchen table. She contacted the suspect’s probation officer via email to report the situation. The probation officer then notified the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office.
