On 6 January 2023, at approximately 0230 hours local time, the Carabinieri responded after unidentified suspects functioned explosives targeting a bank ATM in Corfinio before fleeing with 27,000 euros [~$28,668]. No further details on the explosives have been released and no injuries were reported. The ATM sustained significant damage and the investigation is ongoing.

Mexico: IEDs and IIDs Used to Target Businesses

On 5 January 2023, local police responded following IED and improvised incendiary device (IID) attacks against several businesses and localities throughout Acayucan, Veracruz. On Antonio de Mendoza Street, unknown suspects threw an IED at two motorcycles, which set one of them ablaze. On 4 January, perpetrators used IIDs, described as Molotov cocktails, and IEDs to target a bar and a construction materials business. No further device details have been released and no injuries were reported in any of the attacks. The investigations are ongoing.

Iowa: IED Discovered in Alley

On 3 January 2023, at approximately 1100 hours local time, Cedar Rapids Police Department officers responded to Park Avenue Southeast following reports of a suspicious item in an alley behind a residence. The Cedar Rapids Metro Hazardous Devices Unit was called to assist, determined the suspicious item was an IED, and removed it from the scene. Bolivia: IIDs Used to Target Police Station

Minnesota: Incendiary Device, Explosives Discovered in Residence

On 31 December 2022, at approximately 1420 hours local time, East Range Police Department officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Aurora and discovered explosives and a device described as a “homemade incendiary device.” No further details on the device or explosives have been released. The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad responded to assist and safely removed the explosives and the device. A suspect was arrested and charged with possessing an incendiary device, possessing stolen property, and burglary. The investigation is ongoing.

Missouri: Pyrotechnic Device Discovered Near Sewer Pump Station
