On 19 January 2023, a suicide bomber detonated a person-borne IED (PBIED) at a police outpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing 3 police officers. No further device details have been released. According to authorities, four heavily armed assailants, including the suicide bomber, opened fire and threw hand grenades at the outpost before the PBIED was detonated. Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

Florida: Ordnance Taken to Pawn Shop

On 17 January 2023, at approximately 1500 hours local time, North Port Police Department (NPPD) officers responded to U.S. 41 and Eager Avenue after a man attempted to sell a live (unfired) 75mm ordnance from World War I at a nearby pawn shop. According to officers, the man came across the ordnance after helping a friend clean out their house. Explosive experts from NPPD, Sarasota Police Department, and MacDill Air Force Base also responded to assist, and the ordnance was transported to the base to be rendered safe.

Oklahoma: Explosive Device Detonated in Mailbox

On 14 January 2023, at approximately 0000 hours local time, Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on South Henney Road and Southeast 29th Street after unknown suspects detonated an explosive device inside the mailbox. No further device details have been released, but surveillance footage shows a suspect placing the explosives inside the mailbox, followed by two explosions. Oklahoma County Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist. No injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

North Carolina: IID Discovered Near Daycare Following Fire
