Minnesota: Incendiary Device, Explosives Discovered in Residence

On 31 December 2022, at approximately 1420 hours local time, East Range Police Department officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Aurora and discovered explosives and a device described as a “homemade incendiary device.” No further details on the device or explosives have been released. The Crow Wing County Bomb Squad responded to assist and safely removed the explosives and the device. A suspect was arrested and charged with possessing an incendiary device, possessing stolen property, and burglary. The investigation is ongoing.

Missouri: Pyrotechnic Device Discovered Near Sewer Pump Station

On 30 December 2022, at approximately 1000 hours local time, the St. Louis County Police Department and the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit responded to a sewer pump station in south St. Louis County after an employee discovered a device outside the facility described as 10 cans of spray paint taped around a pyrotechnic. Bomb squad technicians dismantled the device. The investigation is ongoing.

Germany: Explosives Used in ATM Attack

On 3 January 2023, at approximately 0400 hours local time, local police responded after unidentified suspects used explosives to target a bank ATM in the Diedenbergen district of Hofheim before fleeing the scene. No further details on the explosives have been released and no injuries were reported. No cash was taken from the ATM. Following the attack, the suspects crashed their vehicle near the Schiersteiner Bridge and fled on foot. The investigation is ongoing.

Italy: Explosives Used in ATM Attack

On 31 December 2022, the Carabinieri responded after four unknown suspects used explosives to attack a bank ATM in Tonengo di Mazze. No further details on the explosives have been released. Malaysia: VOIED Placed on Car Functioned, 1 Killed

On 29 December 2022, at approximately 2055 hours local time, Ampang Jaya district police responded to a restaurant in Pandan Indah in Kuala Lumpur after a victim operated IED (VOIED), concealed in a package and placed on the hood of a car outside the restaurant, functioned killing the 28-year-old car owner after he moved the package. No further device details have been released. The Bomb Disposal Unit and a K-9 Unit responded to assist and recovered remnants of the IED near the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

New York: 8 IEDs Found in Residence

On 13 December 2022, Erie County probation officers conducting a routine visit at the Hamburg residence of a 60-year-old male discovered eight IEDs, described as homemade tubular improvised explosives, inside the home. No further device details have been released. The suspect, who is on probation for endangering the welfare of two children, faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon. The incident remains under investigation.

On 28 December 2022, Mizoram Police and Indian Army personnel seized explosives and bomb-making material (BMM), described as 48 gelatin sticks, 73 detonators, and 5 meters [~16.4 feet] of detonating cord during a search as part of an investigation in Kakichhuah, Mizoram. Since November 2022, four suspects have been arrested as part of the ongoing joint operation.
