California: Explosive Device Functioned on Sidewalk

On 20 April 2023, at approximately 1930 hours local time, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers responded to a neighborhood in Sherman Oaks following a report of an explosive device that functioned on a sidewalk causing cement debris and damaging a few vehicles. Surveillance footage captured a male suspect placing the device in a cinder block and fleeing the scene in a vehicle. LAPD’s Bomb Squad responded to investigate. No further device details have been released and no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.

Texas: Suspected BMM Found in Residence, 1 Arrested

On 17 April 2023, Burleson Police Department officers and FBI agents conducted a search at a residence on the 700 block of Pecan Street and discovered “a potentially volatile substance.” No further details about the substance have been released. According to authorities, the surrounding area was evacuated while the substance was rendered safe. A 21-year-old male was arrested and charged with possession of prohibited weapons, possession of components of explosives, and deadly conduct. The incident remains under investigation.

Netherlands: Explosive Device Functioned in Apartment

On 21 April 2023, at approximately 0345 hours local time, an explosive device functioned in an apartment in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, damaging several windows and vehicles, scooters, and bicycles parked in front of the apartment. Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians and forensic specialists responded to assist and collected parts of the device for further examination. No further device details have been released and no injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.

Thailand: Roadside IED Injures 8 Police Officers

On 19 April 2023, a roadside IED functioned as two security vehicles were conducting a night patrol in Sai Buri district, injuring eight police officers. No further device details have been released. The explosion damaged both patrol vehicles. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the investigation is ongoing.

Iowa: Explosive Device Discovered on Road

On 18 April 2023, at approximately 1240 hours local time, Marion Police Department officers responded following a report of a suspicious item found near Navajo Drive in Squaw Creek Village and discovered a potential undetonated explosive device. No further device details have been released. The Cedar Rapids/Marion/Linn County Hazardous Devices Unit responded to assist and rendered the device safe. The FBI and ATF are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
