Colombia: VBIED Functioned on Pan-American Highway During Protest, 1 Killed, 3 Injured

On 21 August 2024, a vehicle-borne IED (VBIED)—described as a motorcycle loaded with explosives—was functioned on the Pan-American Highway in Cajibío, in the department of Cauca, during a protest held by indigenous protestors, killing one man and injuring three others, including two police officers. According to authorities, the attack occurred while security forces were attempting to clear the highway and restore order. No further device details were released. The investigation is ongoing.
