Lebanon: Explosives Concealed in Communication Devices Functioned, At Least 32 Killed and 3,000 Injured

On 17 September 2024, between 1530 and 1630 hours local time, thousands of pagers reportedly belonging to Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon detonated simultaneously, killing at least a dozen people and injuring thousands. According to reports, suspected explosives may have been implanted in the pagers before they were shipped to the group—a U.S. designated "Foreign Terrorist Organization"—in Lebanon. There are also conflicting reports suggesting the pager devices may have been intercepted in transit. Reports suggest the pagers were detonated via a radio-controlled switch activation.
