On 22 February 2023, at approximately 2235 hours local time, local police and investigators responded to an apartment building in Rivierenbuurt in Amsterdam, after an explosive device was functioned on the porch leading to the entrance of the building. The windows above the doors and the porch ceiling were damaged, but no injuries were reported. No further device details were provided. The investigation is ongoing.

On 20 February 2023, at approximately 1600 hours local time, Waterloo Police Department (WPD) officers responded to Rath Street after receiving a call concerning a suspicious coffee can sitting on the curb. The WPD Bomb Squad responded to assist and examined the can – described as a coffee can holding small cylinders with fuses that contained an explosive substance – using a remote-control robot, before safely detonating it onsite. No further details on the explosives were provided. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.

Texas: Explosive Device Discovered at Yard Sale

On 21 February 2023, at approximately 0800 hours local time, a resident on U.S. Highway 190 flagged down a Kempner Police Department officer regarding an item he purchased at a yard sale, which turned out to be an explosive device. No further device details were provided. Kempner Volunteer Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, and Fort Hood Explosive Ordnance Disposal Teams responded to assist. The device was rendered safe and taken into ATF custody for further investigation.

According to local officials, the VBIED attack was followed by a gun fight inside the targeted house that lasted for hours and resulted in the killing of 10 civilians and 4 militants involved in the assault. Al-Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the attack.

On 19 February 2023, at approximately 1340 hours local time, Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) officers responded to St. Dominic Catholic Church on Frankford Avenue after a pipe bomb was discovered behind the church in the cemetery. The PPD Bomb Squad responded to assist, examined the pipe bomb, described as a capped 18-inch PVC pipe containing an unknown powder with black powder residue on the device, and safely removed it from the scene for further analysis. On 19 February 2023, at approximately 0709 hours local time, Howell County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered an IED inside a vehicle after responding to a call about a vehicle stopped in the middle of County Road 5130 with a man slumped over the steering wheel. Missouri State Highway Patrol Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist, removed the IED, and conducted render safe procedures offsite. No further device details have been released. The driver was arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
